Don Amero is showcasing at the Breakout West conference and music festival in Whitehorse. His performances take place Friday October 21 at 8:00pm (Jarvis Street Saloon) and Saturday October 22 at 11:00pm (Gold Pan). You can also find him moderating the Opening Keynote on Friday morning, and being a panellist at the Songwriting 101 workshop on Friday afternoon. Finally, he’ll be performing onstage at the Western Canadian Music Awards on Sunday night. www.donamero.com
October is the month for ghosts, goblins… And pure evil! Season 2 of Todd & The Book of Pure Evil premieres on the SPACE network in Canada on Sunday October 23. You can also catch the Season 2 behind-the-scenes special on InnerSPACE on October 10. Meanwhile, Season 1 has been showing on FEARnet in the US, and MuchMusic in Canada. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) is hosting Atlantic Hearings in Charlottetown on October 4, in Indian Brook NS on October 12, and in Eskasoni NS on October 14. The purpose of the Atlantic Hearings are to inform the public about the Commission’s work and statement gathering process, and provide Survivors with time to reflect and share their experiences in lead up to the TRC’s third National Event, taking place in Halifax October 26-29. www.trc.ca
The National Film Board’s annual cross-Canada animation celebration is coming soon. Get Animated! offers some of Canada’s finest (and funniest!) animated films and series of events – all taking place absolutely free. The Manito Ahbee Festival happens November 2 to 6 in Winnipeg. The line-up includes an Education Conference, International Competition Pow Wow, Indigenous Markeplace and Trade Show, and the 6th annual Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMAs) and Red Carpet. Tis the season for award nominations for Don Amero! He is nominated in four categories at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards – Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year, Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year, Best Country CD, and Best Music Video. He is also up for Aboriginal Recording of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, and received two nods at the Native American Music Awards – for Best Folk Recording, and Debut Artist of the Year. Manitoba Arts Network is holding their Manitoba Showcase Contact 2011 from October 13 to 16 in Winkler, Manitoba.
